Exercise
From Medicine
Be aware the Exercise isn't necessarily what you may think it is. If your sole image of exercise is calisthenics and weight lifting, you are missing the vast majority of exercise options. So what is exercise then? From a physiological standpoint, exercise is any activity that results in physical effort on the part of the body.
So what activities count as exercise? Try the following:
- Dance
- Basketball
- Bicycling
- Chopping Wood
- Chasing the bus
- Hiking
- Climbing
- Swimming
- Mopping the floor
The list can get quite varied, there are so many things that count as exercise. Still exercise can be grouped into three types depending on the overall effect it has on the human body:
- Flexibility exercises such as stretching improve the range of motion of muscles and joints.
- Aerobic exercises such as walking and running focus on increasing cardiovascular endurance.
- Anaerobic exercises such as weight training, functional training or sprinting increase short-term muscle strength.
