Managing Chronic Conditions
From Medicine
Usually when people think of disease, they think of diseases like Measles, Chicken Pox, Malaria, Typhoid, etc. With diseases like those, the only thought is to cure the buggers so that life can go on, and good health return. But not all medical issues can be cured. In any number of instances, once you got it, it's for life. Even so, good General Health always remains a concern. [edit] Identifying a Chronic Illness
The source of Chronic Illnesses are not always that easily identified by doctors, and some period of time and a period of great effort on the part of the doctors and the patients to help determine the cause of an illness is sometimes required, while all of the many possibilities are eliminated, or ruled out. Patients need to learn about patience and they need to find friends in their community to help them in their frightful journey into the fairly unknown realm of just learning to live with their Chronic Illness.
[edit] Community support
There are other people out there in the world who have gone through much of the same types of things that anyone must initially learn to basically begin to deal with the loss of control that is experienced at the onset of Chronic Illness. Hopefully, we can build a community of support in The Health Wiki for the sufferers of the various forms of Chronic Illness.
[edit] Anxiety
The immediate loss of a sense of self-control and self-determination often brings about a strong feeling of anxiety, so if you feel a bit unnerved, you're not alone. One of the best things that you can do for yourself is to find a friend to talk with about your anxiety.
- Family
- Doctor
- Pastor
- Peers
- Strangers, who will listen
- Fellow patients and sufferers, who've been there already
- God – He's always with you!
[edit] Proactivity
Even though you might feel some anxiety, take control of your Health care. Be proactive and be an active learner about your body and your mind. Don't sit around passively waiting for someone else to take charge of your life. It's your life, and no one elses, and other than God, nobody really cares about your life more than you.
